The railroad tycoon, Thomas "Doc" Durant, wears a typical Homburg. Typical for that period that is; Homburg's today have both a smaller crown and brim. The difference between then and now is that men didn't then wear hats as a fashion statement. Men wore hats for protection from the elements. Secondarily, the Homburg did make a statement. This is the hat worn by an important man. The bank president would wear a Homburg while the office workers would wear Derbys/Bowlers. Thomas Durant was indeed an important man.
